Immigration Reform--Guest Worker Program
I have been thinking a lot about immigration reform--not surprisingly, since I am taking a class called "Sexuality and Immigration." As the debate heats up all over the country...including even the white house (in the words of Bill Maher--"We spent 3 years trying to get him to say something, now we can't get him to shut up.")

I have come to the conclusion that the guest worker program pisses me off. I think that anything that helps people stay here is to some degree a good thing but I am really bothered by the idea the way it is presented because it is blatantly exploitative, "Well, they are here and they are doing jobs Americans won't do so we need to figure out a way to let them stay long enough to do that." Never mind that they are HUMAN BEINGS!!! And never mind that they have been exploited by us enough--they have been doing jobs Americans won't do for a long long time.

Blech. I am off to give the lecture for Prisons and Criminality...no one wants to lecture in front of Miranda!!!

:)
